Corsa dei Ceri 2017

05/15/2017 – Gubbio (PG)

The famous Cuban Race of Gubbio takes place on the eve of the patron saint Sant’Ubaldo’s festival and has secular traditions, dates back to 1160 and was never interrupted.
The candles are three giant wooden structures in the form of overlapping prisms, weigh about 4 quintals, are over 4 m high and surmounted by the statues of Sant’Ubaldo, San Giorgio and Sant’Antonio. The day of the party is brought to the shoulders by the “ceraioli” in an unbridled race for the streets of the city, in the arrogant and tiring climb to Monte Ingino, where the Patron Basilica stands.
