Corsa dei Ceri 2016

The race takes place on the eve of the feast of the patron Saint Ubaldo, and has age-old traditions: in fact dates back to 1160 and has never been interrupted. The candles, three enormous wooden structure in the shape of overlapping prisms, weigh about four tons, is more than four meters high and topped by statues of St. Ubaldo, St. George and St. Anthony.
The day of the festival are carried on the shoulders by ceraioli in wild ride through the streets of the cities and in the arduous and tiring ascent to Monte Igino, where stands the Basilica of the Patron.
The party, imbued with a strong mystical emotion, involves the entire city and the public attendance. The Ceri of Gubbio were recruited coat of arms of the Umbria region.
